Brain Flashcards
Structures to name on a CT head. What lies immediately lateral to the anterior horn of the lateral venricle?
Head of caudate nucleus.
Structures to name on a CT head. What lies immediately lateral to the 3rd ventricle, forming the wall of the 3rd ventricle?
Thalamus.
Name the arteries that supply the brain, and their origins.
Posterior circulation: Vertebral arteries, Basilar artery, AICA, PICA, PCA, Posterior communicating artery from PCA to internal carotid. Anterior circulation: Internal carotid divides into ACA + MCA. Anterior communicating artery.
What is the arterial supply to the brain?
ACA: medial surface of cerebral hemispheres + frontal lobe. MCA: lateral surface of temporal + parietal lobes PCA: occipital lobe
Structures to name on a CT head. What are the important structures to name?
4 lobes: Frontal, Parietal, Temporal, Occipital. Lateral ventricle. Falx. Internal capsule. Thalamus.
Describe the venous drainage of the cerebral hemispheres.
Superior sagittal sinus –> confluence of sinuses
Inferior sagittal sinus merges with Great cerebral vein to form the straight sinus –> confluence of sinuses
All eventual drain into the internal jugular veins.
