Q

Describe the process of how your brain monitors the body’s temperature

A

If too hot/ cold the brain sends nerve impulses to the skin, which after increases or decreases heat loss from the body’s surface

Q

3 ways the body increases / decreases body temperature

A
  1. Hairs on skin trap more warm air when standing up and less when lying flat
  2. If the body is too hot glands under skin secrete sweat onto surface of skin to increase heat loss by evaporation
  3. Vasodilation causes more heat to be carried by the blood to the skin, where it can be lost to air.
