Homeostatis Flashcards
Diabetes definition
Condition where the body can’t effectively regulate the levels of blood sugar
What does homeostasis mean
Maintaining a constant internal environment
What is osmoregulation
Controlling the water content
Why is the blood sugar level controlled
To provide cells with a constant supply of energy
How is the blood sugar level controlled
By the release and storage of glucose this is controlled by a hormone called insulin
Why is body temperature controlled
To maintain the temperature in which enzymes work best In which is 37o
How is body temperature controlled
Controlling blood flow to skin also sweating and shivering
Why is the body’s water content controlled
To protect cells by stopping too much water from entering or leaving them
What is the body’s water content process called
Osmoregulation
How can you control your water content
Water loss from lungs when exhaling
Skin by sweating
The body in urine produced by kidneys
What happens when your body has too little water
The hypothalamus detects too little water in blood
Pituitary gland releases ADH
Kidneys maintain blood water level
So less water is lost in urine
Blood water level returns too normal
Iron in body- how can it be controlled
Loss of irons from sweating and irinating
