The hypothalamus which controls the pituitary gland
What are hormones
Chemicals secreted by glands in the body
What does the adrenal gland produce
Adrenaline and prepares body for rapid excercise and increases heart rate.
What does the thyroid gland produce
Thyroxine which controls the rate of metabolism
What does the pancreas produce
Insulin which controls blood sugar
What does the testes produce
Testosterone which causes puberty and stimulates sperm production
What hormones does the ovaries produce
Oestrogen which causes changes at puberty and controls menstrual cycle
What is the effect on the pancreas if the blood level is too high/low
Insulin is/ is not secreted into the blood
What is the effect on the liver if the glucose level sis to high / low
Liver converts glucose into glycogen
Too low- does not do above
What is type 1 diabetes
It is caused by a lack of insulin
What is type 2 diabetes
When a person becomes resistant to insulin due to obesity or overweight
How can type 1 diabetes be controlled
By monitoring diet and regular injections of insulin
How can type 2 diabetes be controlled
Diet excercise
