Thermoregulation Flashcards
What are the different types of adapters?
Structural, behavioural, and physiological
What is an endotherm?
An animal that can maintain a constant body temperature independent of the environment.
What is an ectotherm?
Organisms that adapt their body temperature to surrounding environment, this can save energy but limits the habitats they can live in.
What is the circulatory system?
made up of blood vessels that carry blood away from and towards the heart. The CS carries oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to cells, and removes waste products like carbon dioxide.
What is arteriole construction?
arteries supplying skin capillaries can be constricted to reduce the amount of blood that comes in closer proximity to external environment.
What are shunt vessels?
Between arterioles and venules in the inner part of the skin shunt vessels cause blood to by pass skin capillaries.
