Osmoregulation Flashcards
1
Q
Osmosis and Diffusion
A
- water moves in response to osmotic gradients, salts diffuse
- both can be lost through kidneys, intestines and skin
- these can only have minimal regulation by body
2
Q
What is an osmoregulator?
A
An organism that actively controls internal salt concentration independently of the salt concentrations in the environment.
3
Q
what is an osmoconformer?
A
An organism that maintains an internal environment that is isotonic with its external environment.
4
Q
What is abscisic acid?
A
A hormone produced by plants that controls the closing of stomata and can inhibit germination of seeds.
