Thermoplastics Flashcards
Thermoplastics
Plastics that when heated can be shaped and reshaped when cooled multiple reshapes
Polythene
Stiff strong plastic melts around 120 degrees
Expanded polystyrene
Soft spongy insulating material with low density and insulation
High impact polystyrene
Light strong plastic used for vacuum forming on outer cases on electronics
Rigid PVC
Stiff hard wearing durable plastics. If plasticisers are added it becomes rubbery
Acrylic/Polymethyl-Methacrylate
Durable transparent/opaque plastic that can be coloured used for signs and stuff
Polyethylene Terephthalate
Polyester plastic used in vacuum forming or blow moulding used for packet trays and bottles CAN BE RECYCLED OR MADE OF RECYCLED STUFF, ductile (doesn’t shatter), water resistant, VERY STRONG
(Corrugated)/polypropylene
Is a water resistant version of the corrugated card that doesn’t disintegrate and is stronger. Non corrugated is thin and transparent
High density polyethylene HDPE
High density plastic made from petroleum
