Thermohydrometer For API Grav Flashcards
What degrees is gravity corrected to?
60 deg F.
How often do thermohydrometers need to be recalibrate?
Once every 3 years.
What are the requirements that thermohydrometers and hydrometers must meet?
They shall be NIST second-generation calibrated or supplied by the company contracted certification facility.
What specification must hydrometers and thermohydrometers meet?
ASTM E 100
What is the minimum accuracy of the thermometer inside of a thermohydrometer?
+/- 1.0 deg. F
What is the minimum accuracy of the API gravity range?
0.1 deg. API
What should the thermohydrometer be inspected for?
That there are no scratches, cracks, or loose pieces of ballast. Also ensure that the paper scale is straight and that there isn’t any hydrometer scale or thermometer slippage. Lastly check for Mercury separation.
If comparing one thermohydrometer to another what is the maximum difference allowed between the two?
One scale division (0.1 deg API)
What is the minimum distance requirement from the outside of the thermohydrometer compared to the thermohydrometer cylinder used to gather the sample?
One inch or greater than the outside diameter of the thermohydrometer.
What is the minimum distance from the bottom of the thermohydrometer to the bottom of the thermohydrometer cylinder.
25mm or 1 inch
If there are bubbles at the top of the sample what should you do to get rid of it?
Touch it with a piece of clean absorbent paper.
How do you put the thermohydrometer into the sample container?
Lower it slowly into the middle of the sample, depress it two scale divisions, give it a slight spin and don’t let it hit the walls.
How long should you let the thermodrometer rest before taking the read?
A minimum of 3-5 minutes.
How much can the surrounding medium change while waiting to take the thermohydrometer reading?
+/- 5 deg F.
What is the maximum temperature that a sample can be while taking a reading with the thermohydrometer?
120 deg. F or cooler.
