Seating-circle better than around a table—no barriers
Size-7 or 8 members is ideal
Membership-open ended and close ended
Close ended is more therapeutic
Group Dynamics
Instillation of hope; universality; imparting of information; altruism; corrective recapitulation of the primary family group; socializing techniques; imitative behavior; interpersonal learning; group cohesiveness; catharsis; existential factors
Yalom’s group curative factors
focus is on leader; members dependent on leader. Production high, morale low
Autocratic
focus is on members. Production lower than autocratic, morale high
Democratic
no focus; goals are undefined. Production low, morale low
Laissez-faire
A group of individuals who are bound by strong emotional ties, a sense of belonging, and a passion for being involved in one another’s lives.
The patients family is whoever they say they are.

leaders of group therapy generally have advanced degrees in psychology, social work, nursing or medicine.
group therapy
different from group therapy.

relabeling problematic behavior by putting it into new, more positive perspective that emphasizes its good intention.
