Theory Of Reasoned Action Flashcards
Theory of Reasoned Action
Value expectancy, the things you think you are going to get out of something, the idea that we use a cognitive-rational decision making process.
A. Attitude Towards the Behavior:
A primary construct in both the theory of reasoned action and the theory of planned behavior, which is composed of a person’s collective evaluation of the worth or overall value of performing any given health behavior. (influence intention) emotion, what we think or feel about something- emotional aspects to something; judgement- we decide whether something is good or bad-TRA
Belief about the Behavior:
What do you think, how much do you care about that, how valuable is that to you? Cost vs. benefitsThe benefits of that behavior don’t have to be just health, any kind of outcome (social, financial) ex. Quitting smoking saves money-TRA (Att. Toward the behavior)
Evaluation about the Behavior:
Determine the “good vs. bad” of the behavior-TRA (Att toward the behavior)
B. Subjective Norm:
A primary construct in both the theory of reasoned action and the theory of planned behavior that is composed of a person’s collective sense of what respected others would endorse as a “good” health behaviors. (influence intention) what you expect everybody is to do and how important it is for you fit in and do what is expected-TRA
Opinions of Referent Others:
Peers, professors, family Opinions of the people around about what you should do, some is direct (vocalized) or implied (what you perceive you have to do)-TRA (Subjective Norm)
Motivation to Comply:
How important it is for us to do what is expected-TRA (Subjective Norm)
C. Intention:
Primary predictor of behavior and the only one we measure or care about, About decisions that are influenced by our motivation (we can measure this on a scale, whether or not we decided to do something, how likely are we to believe we will engage in our behavior)-TRA
