Reasons for allowing female ordination:
CHURCH OF ENGLAND
- men and women are equal
- it is the Chrurch’s responsibility to tackle discrimination in society
- Jesus treated men with equal respect to women (Christians should follow Jesus’ example)
Reasons against female ordination:
CATHOLIC CHURCH
- Jesus was a man (a priest should act ‘in persona Christ’ and Jesus was a man meaning so should those acting like him)
- Men and women are different (the role is more suited to a man)
- Jesus had male disciples (Jesus chose men to carry out his work)
Importance of Mary Magdalene
Was the first person to see Jesus after he resurrected showing both men and women were equal in Jesus’ eyes as he could have chosen anyone to see him first
FOR religious upbringing
- teaches morals
- God told people to ‘Go forth and make disciples of all nations’ (Matthew)
- Makes a family closer
- gives them a community
AGAINST religious upbringing
- force children into a certain religion
- can gain morals through experience without religion
- not giving the person the choice to find faith (making it less sincere)

A quote used FOR divorce
‘Blessed are the peacemakers’ (Matthew 5:9) - a divorce is justified if bringing peace to both parties
Catholic Church views on divorce:
- still seen as married by church even if legally divorced
- vows can be broken between parties but not between God
- divorce + remarriage is seen as committing adultery
- don’t allow remarriage in their church
Church of England views on divorce:
- accept that some marriages can break down
- concerned for the effect it has on children
- if someone wants to remarry they must attend marriage preparation
Church of England views on contraception:
- sensible as children are more likely to be loved if they are wanted/planned
- allows couples to express love through sex before they are ready for the commitment of children
Catholic view on contraception:
- God designed sex for a purpose (recreation) so using contraception ruins Gods plans

Catholic Church views on polygamy
- It’s wrong because marriage is ‘exclusive between one man and a woman’.
