What is weather?
The condition of the atmosphere at a specific place and time.
What two air qualities create almost all weather?
Air temperature and air density
What is humidity?
The amount of moisture held in the air.
Which air temperature is less dense and rises upward?
Warm air
Which air temperature is more dense and sinks downward?
Cool air
What two ingredients form clouds?
Water and particles in the air
Which air temperature can hold more moisture before it condenses and falls as rain?
Warm air
What causes some air to warmer or colder than other air?
Uneven heating from the Sun
What are the 3 forms of clouds?
Cumulus, Stratus, and Cirrus
How do rain storms happen?
Warm and cold air combine, causing air moisture to condense and fall as rain.
How does wind happen?
Warm air rises, and cool air rushes in to take its place
What is a thunderstorm cloud called?
A cumulonimbus (Cumulus cloud + nimbus (“storm”)
What causes thunder?
Lightning expands the air so fast that it causes a sonic boom.
