The Water Cycle Flashcards
What is the order of the water cycle?
1) Evaporation
2) Condensation
3) Precipitation
4) Surface Runoff
5) Infiltration
6) Groundwater
7) Transpiration
What is Evaporation?
When the Sun heats liquid water, causing it to become water vapour/gas.
What is Condensation?
When water vapour rises up into the atmosphere and cools, becoming liquid water droplets, which become clouds.
What is Precipitation?
When clouds get overloaded and begin to release hail, rain, sleet, or snow back to Earth.
What is Surface Runoff?
When Precipitation falls onto land and then flows into bodies of water such as rivers, lakes, or oceans.
What is Infiltration?
When Precipitation falls onto land and soaks into the soil or rock surface of Earth.
What is Groundwater?
When liquid water is stored underground in pores between rocks and soil.
What is Transpiration?
When liquid water evaporates into the atmosphere from plants.
What natural factors influence the water cycle?
- Temperature
- Topography
- Humidity
- Wind Speed
- Vegetation
- Solar Radiation
