Sound & Light Flashcards
Describe particles in a compression.
The part of a sound wave where the particles are closely packed together.
Describe particles in a rarefaction.
Part of a sound wave where particles are forced apart.
What is frequency?
The number of waves that pass a point every second.
What is wavelength?
The difference between two troughs or crests of a wave.
What is a trough?
The lowest or minimum point of a sound wave.
What is a crest?
The highest point or peak of a sound wave.
How do rainbows occur?
When sunlight interacts with water droplets and refracts and splits into different colours.
What are the primary colours of light?
Red, green, and blue. (RGB)
What are the secondary colours of light?
Cyan, magenta, and yellow. (CMY-K)
What is the difference between electromagnetic and mechanical waves?
Mechanical waves require a medium to travel through, while electromagnetic waves can travel through a vacuum.
