What is NATO?
NATO is an international military alliance set up after WW2 in 1949 to defend against Soviet aggression. It has 29 members, with the UK being a founding member. It has been active in recent years in Afghanistan and Iraq in response to terrorism.
What is the UN?
The UN was set up by the international community after WW2 to avoid war and solve global problems through discussion. It has 193 members, with the UK being one of five permanent members. The UK joined in 1945.
What is the Commonwealth?
The Commonwealth is made up of countries once part of the British Empire. The Monarch is the head. It aims to promote economic, social, and sustainable development and support democracy and peace.
What is the WTO?
The WTO is an international organization that deals with trade between countries. It was set up in 1995 and has 164 members. It sorts out trade disputes and tries to make trade more free, open, and transparent.
