The Thigh, Hip, Groin & Pelvis Flashcards
Medial compartment of the thigh contains what muscles that do what action?
Contains the adductors: (med. to lat.)
- Gracilis
- Add. Longus
- Add. Brevis
- Add. Magnus
- Pectineus
Anterior compartment of the thigh contains what muscles that do what action?
Contains the hip flexors: (med to lat.)
- Sartorius
- Vastus Medialis
- Rectus Femoris
- Vastus Intermedius (deep to femoris)
- Vastus lateralis
The Extensor group consists of what muscles?
Med. to lat.:
- Semimembranosus
- Semitendinosus
- Biceps Femoris Long head
- Biceps femoris short head
Where are the 4 most common sites of avulsion fractures in young athletes?
- Ischial Tuberosity (Hamstrings)
- ASIS (Sartorius)
- AIIS (Rectus Femoris)
- Pubic Ramus (Adductors)
What is Avascular Necrosis?
Tissue that begins to decay because of loss of blood supply to proximal femur.
Femur dislocation can disrupt the circumflex artery or chronic use of steroids, alcohol and blood coagulation disorders can disrupt blood flow all resulting in necrotic tissue
What is Legg Calve-Perthes disease? (Coxa Plana)
Avascular necrosis of the femoral head that occurs in children 4-10 years of age.
What is a slipped capital Femoral Epiphysis?
The growth plate on the femoral head is not formed correctly, possible due to imbalances of GH.
Characteristically found on biological males 10-17 y/o that are tall and thin/obese
What is Osteitis Pubis?
Inflamed pubic symphysis from repetitive stress from the adjacent muscles. Common in distance running, running sports and wrestling.
What is a Hip Pointer?
Contusion of the iliac crest with an associated hematoma. Iliac crest is a common insertion point for many abdominal muscles, so breathing may become painful.
What is the Y ligament of Bigelow?
The iliofemoral ligament. Originates on the AIIS and inserts on the intertrochanteric line on the femur.
