The thigh Flashcards
what are the boundaries of the femoral triangle
inguinal ligament,
sartorius muscle
adductor longus muscle
what does the femoral triangle contain
emoral nerve and the femoral sheath, which envelops the femoral artery and vein and medially situated lymph nodes and vessels
what is the femoral canal
The femoral canal is the medial portion of the sheath and contains lymphatics and connective tissue.
describe how a femoral hernia happens
The abdominal contents may find their way into the femoral triangle forming a femoral hernia. It would be deep to the fascia lata, and may not be felt until quite a large amount of gut has protruded into the thigh
describe what the femoral hernia looks like
The hernia would be seen as a swelling below the pubic tubercle (an inguinal hernia would be above the pubic tubercle)
who are femoral hernias more common in
females
what is shentons line
Shenton’s line can be seen on radiograph of the hip where the lower margin of the femoral neck appears as a continuous line with the iliopubic ramus
what happens when shentons line looks discoutninus
fracture of the femoral neck
why does hip joint pain sometimes manifest as pain in the knee
-
There are branches of the femoral, obturator, sciatic and gluteal nerves that supply the hip joint, some branches of the same nerves also supply the knee join
