describe flexion
A
- the iliopsoas muscle is the principal flexor of the hip
- The Quadriceps also helps to flex the hip especially the rectus femoris part of the quadriceps
. The quadriceps also help stabilse the hip joint

the two gluteal muscles, gluteal medius and minimus are hip abductors and the tensor fascia lata muscle

A
- gluteus maximus is the big muscle of the backside,
- only about a quarter of its fibres attach to the femur the remainder attaches to the iliotibial tract a thickening of the fascia lata.
- The hamstrings also extend the hip joint.
- The hamstrings are also important knee flexors
