  • The Quadriceps also helps to flex the hip especially the rectus femoris part of the quadriceps

  • gluteus maximus is the big muscle of the backside,
  • only about a quarter of its fibres attach to the femur the remainder attaches to the iliotibial tract a thickening of the fascia lata.
  • The hamstrings also extend the hip joint.
  • The hamstrings are also important knee flexors
