George Kennan. Ambassador. Sent a telegram to department of state. Influenced containment. Stalin wants to demonise the west. Soviets are trying to expand their power. Soviets are aggressive and driven by ideology.

Promoted special US/UK relationship. Tough stance is the only way to fight USSR. Stalin felt teamed up on in anti commie attacks.

1946 - Novikov telegram
A
Response to the long telegram. Soviet ambassador sent the telegram to Stalin. It stared the USA wanted to achieve world domination and improve military. The USSR needed to secure a buffer zone to protect them. Stalin distrusts USA now. Takes a harder stance.
