The Teaching Process Flashcards

Q

Preparation of a lesson for a ground or flight instruction period

A

Preparation is the first step of the teaching process, which consists of determine the scope of the lesson, the objects and goals to be obtained this portion includes making certain all necessary supplies are on hand. When using the telling-and-doing technique of flight instruction this step is accomplished prior to the flight lesson

A determination of objects and standards is necessary before any
important instruction can be presented. Although some schools and independent instructors may develop their own syllabus in practice, many instructors use a commercially developed syllabus that already has been selected by a school for use in their training programs. For the aviation instructors, the objectives listed in the syllabus are a beginning point

Q

Performance based objectives

A

Performance based objectives are used to set measured, reasonable standards that describe the desired performance of the student. Those objectives provide a way of starting what performance level is desired of a student before the student is allowed to progress to the next stage of instruction, the objectives must clear, measurable and repeatable.

Q

Description of the skill or behavior

A

The description of the skill or behavior explains the desired outcome of the instruction. It is actually a learned capability, which may be defined as knowledge, a skill, or an attitude. The description should be in concrete terms that can be measured.

Q

Condititins

A

Conditions are necessary to specifically explain the rules under which the skill or behavior is demonstrated. If a desired capability is to negative from point A to point B, then the objective as stated is not specific enough for all students to do it in the same way. Information such as equipment, tools, reference materials, and limiting parameters should be applied

Q

Criteria

A

Criteria are the standards that measure the accomplishment of the objective. The criteria should be stated so that there is no question whether the objective has been met. “ plan a trip from point A to Point B the ALT should not be off by more than 200ft and the Arrival time should be be with in 5min”

Q

Decision based objectives

A

Decision based objectives are designed to specially to develop pilot judgement and AMD skills. Decision based objects facilitate a higher level of learning and application by using dynamic and meaningful scenarios, the instructor teaches the student how to gather scenarios that require dynamic problem solving to teach XC operations, emergency procuders, and other flight skills for years.

Q

Before the lesson

A

Decide a topic
Determine the amount of time for the lesson
write an outline
develop a flow or order to the concept being introduced
Avoid over loading the student with to much detail
Rehearse the lesson
Think about delivery ( microphone, Dry erase board)
Arrive early, create a welcoming atmosphere for students
Be available early for class
Set a positive tone for learning

Q

Durning the lesson

A

Grab the students attention
Maintain eye contact
Make learning goals explicit for each assignment
Plan an activity for students
Progress through the lesson smoothly
Begin with an introduction, support the lesson
Use time efficiently and effectively
Use multimedia
move around the room durning the lesson
Students today are conditioned by tv and movies
Give the student time to answer the question before responding to them

Q

After the lesson

A

Plan an ending to the lesson
Summarize the days main points
Have a final task for the students to do incase class ends early
Leave time for questions at the end
Treat students questions with courtesy no matter what
Have students do something with the lecture material at home
Provide other resources for the student
Encourage students to keep up and do well
Be available to students after class
Critique the lesson: take notes on the good and the bad

Q

Application, by the student, or material,or procuder presented

A

The third step in application, when the student preforms the procedure or demonstrates the knowledge required in the lesson. In telling-and-doing technique of flight instruction this step consists of the student doing the procedure while explaining it

Application is the student use of the instructor’s presented material. If it is a classroom presentation, the student may be asked to explain the new material
If it is a new flight maneuver, the student is asked to perform the maneuver that has been demonstrated

it is very important that each student performs the maneuver or operation the right way the first few times to establish good habit. Faulty habits are difficult to correct and must be addressed asap. the rule of primacy

Q

Review and evaluation of student performance

A

Reviewed and evaluation is the 4th and last step in the teaching process ,which consists of a review of all material and evaluation of the student. In telling-and-doing technique of flight instruction this step consists of the instruction evaluating the students performance while the student performs the required procedure

Before the end of the instruction period, the instructor should review what has been covered durning the lesson and required the student to demonstrate how well the lesson objectives have been met. Review and assignments are integral parts of each flight and ground lesson
