The skin Flashcards
What are the 5 funtions of the skin
Protection from infection Regulation of temperature Excretion of sweat sensation detector Formation of chemicals
Describe the functions of the 5 layers of the epidermal
Basal - Deepest layer where epithelial cells divide to produce new skin cells
Prickle - Its prickly
Grannular - as prickle cells move, they become smooth and into a grannular layer
Clear - very clear/thin that appears where friction at most (palm of hand or soul of feet)
Horny - When cells die they release a chemical called keritonin sacks that provide skin with waterproof layer
Describe the 6 layers of the dermis
Arecti pilli - Goose bumps
Sensory nerve endings - sense pain/temp etc
Sweat glands - Eccrine - from dermis to epidermis when sweating
- Aprocrine - Sweaty areas, releases dicharge into hair folecule
Blood vessels - Supplies glands etc with nutrients
Sebaceous gland - makes way up hair folecule to lubricate skin with oil
Subcutanous - in fat cells, used as energy if needed
