The nervous system Flashcards
Roles of the nervous system
Sensation (gather information)
Interegation (Interpret information)
Response (Initiate appropriate response)
2 parts of Central nervous system
Brain + Spinal chord
Describe the 4 parts of the brain
Cerebum
Cerecellum
Diencephalon
Brain Stem
Describe cerebum
Divided into two: front and back Responsible for #Mental activities #Sensation (5 senses) #Voluntary muscle contraction
Describe Cerebellum
Below cerebum
Acts as memory bank for learning skills
posture and balance
Describe Diencephalon
Contains Thalamus, Hypothalamus and Pineal gland
Thalamus = Passes motor + sensory info to cerebellum
Hypothalamus = Forms links between nervous+ Endocrine system
Pineal gland = keeps sleep and body rythyms controlled
Describe the Brain Stem
Links brain and spinal chord
Made up of the midbrain, pons and medulla
Describe the functions of brain stem
Midbrain - controlls eye movement
Pons - Controls facial expressions , chewing, breathing
Medulla - Top of spinal chord, controls heart/breathing rate and blood pressure
