What are the semicircular canals?
A
Three canals that each define 2/3 of a circle and lie in the 3 planes of space.

A
Membranous semicircular ducts that are continuous with the Utricle.

What is the Ampulla?
A
The swollen end of each canal and it houses an equilibrium receptor.

What is the equilibrium receptor within each canal?
A
Crista ampullaris.

What does the equilibrium receptor respond to?
A
- The angular dynamic movements of the head (rotation)
- DYNAMIC Equilibrium - make adjustments to keep balances during dynamic rotation.
