The Ripper Letters Flashcards
What were the Ripper letters?
Three letters all supposedly from the killer sent to police or public citizens
What was the first letter? (2)
The Dear Boss Letter, written in red ink and signed Yours Truly Jack the Ripper, was sent to the Central News Agency (CNA) on September 27th to make fun of the police, make threats, brag about his work, threaten to clip his next victim’s ears off
However many believe it was written by an up and coming journalist as not many knew about the CNA
What was the second letter? (3)
The Saucy Jack postcard was sent to the CNA on October 1st shortly after the double event
Written similarly to the first letter and brags about the double event, refers to his previous letter and how Eddowes’ ears were clipped
This one is still considered a scam
What was the third letter? (3)
The Lusk Letter was sent to George Lusk, the president of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee on October 16th
He sent him a kidney he claims to be from Eddowes, taunts him, brags, etc.
Some believe this letter is real because it wasn’t signed Jack the Ripper and the kidney could’ve been Catherine’s missing kidney
