The Respiratory System Flashcards
- warming
- cillia sweeping debris and mucus up trachea for disposal
- mucus coating cillia and lung tissue, trapping dust/bacteria
Air Processing
occurs in alveolus
External Respiration
oxygen defuses from alveoli into where it binds with hemoglobin in a red blood cell
External Respiration
CO2 defuses from blood to alveoli
External Respiration
occurs in cells
Internal Respiration
oxygen defuses out of blood into extracellular fluid and then into cells
Internal Respiration
CO2 diffuses out of cells into extracellular fluid, then into blood
Internal Respiration
Breathing Regulation Process
1) production of co2
2) co2 in blood increases
3) blood PH falls
4) aortic artery sensors detect low PH
5) brain signals diaphragm and inter-coastal muscles
inter-costal muscles relax and ribs move in and down
Exhalation
inter-coastal muscles contract and ribs expand
Inhalation
diaphragm relaxes, moving upwards
Exhalation
diaphragm contracts, moving downwards
Inhalation
air is pushed into lungs
Inhalation
air is pushed out of lungs
Exhalation
volume of the thoracic cavity increases, pressure decreases
Inhalation
