The Replication of DNA Flashcards
Why is it important for DNA to make an EXACT COPY of itself?
It is important because proper replication of the DNA ensures that the daughter cells produced through mitosis will have the EXACT SAME GENETIC MATERIAL as the ORIGINAL PARENT CELL.
Is a major percentage of our DNA shared with chimpanzees?
Oddly enough, we are related to them O_O.
What kind of substance helps the bonding of nucleotides into a new DNA molecule?
ENZYMESSSSSSSSSSSS
What is the first step in DNA Replication?
An enzyme attaches to the DNA molecule, untwisting and unzipping it, by breaking the weak hydrogen bonds to hold its double helix shape (sorry this was long, IDK how to really shorten it.)
What’s the second step in DNA Replication?
Free-floating DNA nucleotides in the nucleus begin to PAIR UP with their bases on each open side of the DNA molecule.
The third step of DNA Replication is that the process from step 2 continues until each half of ________ ___ strand now has a new ____ _____ to it.
The third step of DNA Replication is that step 2 continues until each half of the ORIGINAL DNA strand has a new SIDE BUILT to it.
What happens once the DNA strand is completely copied?
Enzymes RETWIST the DNA MOLECULESSSSS
What is the entire point of DNA REPLICATION? Because to me, this all just seems like a huge waste of time!! LOL
It is NOT a waste of time >:( and the purpose of DNA REPLICATION is so that genetic info can be passed on to new cells by the process of mitosis.!!
What two processes vital to cells’ existence are made possible because DNA can replicate itself?
Mitosis and meiosis >-
