Meiosis! Flashcards
What even is meiosis?
It is the creation of gametes!?
TRUE or FALSE: Gametes are cancer cells.
NOOOO, they are the EGG and the SPERM .
Meiosis is responsible for... A. Reproducing genes B. Fertilizing the gametes in the cells. C. Creating the genetic variation sexual reproduction. D. It prepares for prophase I .
C. Creating the genetic variation sexual reproduction.
What happens during prophase I
HOMOLOGOUS chromosomes line up to each other, and NON-SISTER chromatids transfer genetic information in a process called CROSSING OVER.
What ends meiosis I ?
A. Homologous chromosomes separate from each other.
B. Chromatids start the duplication process.
C. Gametes begin to avenge each other from the DNA.
A. Homologous chromosomes separate from each other.
What is meiosis II also known as?
The reduction division. (the game)
How many chromosomes are in a sperm and egg cell?
23 and 23 (and me!)
Why does interphase have to occur before meiosis? Can’t it just be a bit more fricken patient?
To ensure it’s actually ready to divide. If not, there wouldn’t be cell growth, DNA replication, and cell processes.
How would you know if meiosis was in metaphase I or metaphase II?
Because chromosomes that are lined up in the middle WITH TWO X’S is metaphase I. Metaphase II is basically the same thing, except there is NO X’S BABY!
What occurs during nondisjunction.
Genetic disorders.
