Francesco Petrarch
He was from Italy and he was the first to think of the classical past as glorious time and a time where they could grow from and learn from. He impacted the humanist in the later Renaissance and helped them view ideas from his point of view.
Erasmus
Born in the Holland (Netherlands), he believed that the church played a crucial role in teaching and putting faith in other people. He believed that the bible should be translated in the vernacular language of Europe at the time. He impacted the Renaissance by translating the Bible. He was a writer.
Michel de Montaigne
He was a french philosopher and writer who created the essay form. He promoted the ideas of questioning ideas and developing self awareness. Born in France
Leonardo de Vinci
born in Italy he was an artist, architecture, science. He was the person who made the helicopter. He was also probably the most renaissance man you could find.
Donatello
Developed a unique technique for casting bronze shadows that was used by later artists. Born in the Republic of Florence. He was an artist.
Nicolaus Copernicus
Was a polish mathematician and astronomer. Using his skills he created a theory about the universe. He created the idea that the world and earth revolved around the sun and he also proved that the Earth rotated on its axis once a day. It was only centuries after before people accepted his ideas.
Geoffery Chaucer
- Born in London.
- Studied and translated scientific treatises and works of astrology, theology, alchemy, philosophical dialogue and theory of dreams.
- Was a writer.
Sir Tomas More
- Born in London
- English Humanist, Statesman, Lawyer, Social Philosopher and author.
- helped spread Christian Humanism and also died a martyr opposing King Henry the eighth.
Martin Luther
- Born in what is now known as Germany.
- He was a Priest, monk, German Professor of Theology, A Writer, A seminal figure in Protestant Reformation
- He Reformed Protestant religion.
Lorenzo de Medici
- Born in Florence Italy.
- Rule the city of Florence, Italy. Banker
- Brought stability to Florence. Reason for the succession of the Italian renaissance.
Sir Francis Bacon
- Born in London
- Philosopher, Politician, Scientist, Statesman
- Found the scientific method. Colonization of colonies in North America.
Henry The Navigator
- Born in Portugal.
- Was a Prince.
- Set up centers at Sagres which supported cartographers, mathematicians, astronomers, sailors and navigators to gather and share their knowledge. (many of the people in this profession gathered from all around the world at these centers).In these centers people worked on ways to improve navigational devices and also illustrated maps based on information brought back by Portuguese explorers.
Christopher Columbus
- Born in The Republic of Genoa.
- Sailor/explorer.
- He impacted the world because he opened up exploration and colonization for the world.
Ferdinand Magellan
- Born in Portugal
- Explorer/Navigator.
- He is said to be the first person to circumnavigate the world but had died during doing so. He also proved that the world was round and not flat which was a popular belief at the time.
Francis Drake
- Born in England
- English Sea Captain, Privateer, slave trader, Pirate,naval officer and explorer of the Elizabeth era.
- First Englishman to circumnavigate the world globe. His attacks on Spanish treasure ships brought wealth to England and earned him the trust and gratitude of Queen Elizabeth 1.
