Why were Jewish Ghettos created?
A
Nazi regime urgently needed plan to deal with huge Jewish populations that were displaced by military conquest and Germanisation

Set up in Lodz in February 1940

A
Formed into labour gangs, accommodated in barrack blocks and kept under guard

A
Terrible; six people shared an average room; 15 people lived in an average apartment and few homes had running water; food was scarce

- Black market for food smuggled in from outside
- Jewish leaders organised prayers and religious festivals
- Illegal schools and illegal printing presses
