What was phase one?

A

The legal revolution, 1933-34. Hitler depended on political allies and consolidated is power by legal means

What was phase two?

A

Creating new Germany, 1934-37- By August 1934 Nazi regime was secure but Hitler was still not in full control due to public opinion both at home and abroad e.g. the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936; Hitler avoided confronting powerful groups e.g. the army or Churches and knew Germany was not ready for a war

What was phase three?

A

The radicalisation of the state- by the end of 1937, the Nazi regime was far stronger than in 1933- the economy had recovered, the SS completely controlled the police system and Hitler felt Germany was ready for war- Hitler let loose radical persecution of his ‘racial enemies’
