What did Stalin do to National minorities during the war?

A

the multinational nature of the Empire was seen as a potential threat to state security, so Stalin took action to prevent social disintegration

He deported suspect ethnic groups away from their homelands such as the Karachai + Chechens
this was an extension of the purges as they were brutally treated and only 2/3 survived the journey to Siberia

A

Stalin addressed the grievances of Army officers by downgrading the role of political commissars attached to military units and bringing back special badges of rank
this increased the number of the military that chose to join the party
