What did Khrushchev do after Stalin’s death in 1953?
After Stalin’s death, Khrushchev began appointing his own supporters to important posts and built himself a strong support network in the party’s administration.
When Beria began gaining popularity for releasing prisoners, Khrushchev and other Presidium members conspired against him leading to his arrest in June 1953.
What scheme did Khrushchev launch that led to his support?
When leadership was divided on Economic and foreign policy, Khrushchev focused on agriculture and launched his Virgin land scheme in 1954.

Why wasn’t the Presidium able to dismiss Khrushchev?
