The Periodic Table - Structure Flashcards
What is a row called?
A period.
What is a column called?
A group.
What is another name for Trend?
Periodicity.
What do elements in the same period have?
The same amount of electron shells and as such repeating physical and chemical properties, as well as repeating trends (eg decreasing atomic radius).
What do elements in the same group have?
Same number of electrons in their outer shell, so have similar chemical properties.
What are the name of the blocks a periodic table can be split up into?
S-Block, D-Block, P-Block, F-Block.
What groups are in the S-Block?
Groups 1-2 (including Hydrogen).
What groups are in the D-Block?
Transition metals.
What groups are in the P-Block?
Groups 3-8.
What groups are in the F-Block?
Elements below standard bit.
