THE NERVOUS SYSTEM Flashcards
What is the human nervous system?
A complex network of nerve cells that carry messages to and from the brain and spinal chord to different parts of the body.
What does the human nervous stem help to do?
Helps all of the parts of the body to communicate with each other.
What controls the nervous system?
The brain.
What is the human nervous system dived into?
The central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.
What is the central nervous system made up from?
The brain and spinal chord.
What two systems make up the peripheral nervous system?
Somatic nervous system.
Autonomic nervous system.
What two systems make up the autonomic nervous system?
What two branches is the autonomic nervous system divided into?
Sympathetic nervous system.
Parasympathetic nervous system.
What does the autonomic nervous system govern?
The brain’s involuntary activities such as stress and heartbeat.
What is the basic role of the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system?
Fight or flight.
What is the basic role of the parasympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system?
Rest and digest.
What is the spinal chord literally?
A bundle of nerve fires enclosed within the spinal column which connects nearly all parts of the body with the brain.
