the main communication system of the human body.
it has 2 major jobs
1. to collect and respond to information in the environment
2. to control the working of different organs and cells in the body, including the brain
WHAT MAKES UP THE CNS
spinal cord, brain stem, brain
what makes up the peripheral nervous system
the autonomic nervous system
the peripheral nervous system
ANS (autonomic)
regulates involuntary body processes, operates automatically without conscious direction.
e.g heart rate, respiration, digestion
SNS (somatic)
carries sensory information from sensory organs to the CNS and relays motor command to muscles, controls voluntary movement.
sympathetic Nervous system
prepares the body for action and stress
“fight or flight”
Parasympathetic nervous system
calms the body and helps the body to conserve energy
