The Muscle Action Spectrum Flashcards
What is concentric?
Muscular force greater than resistive force, muscle shortens
What is eccentric?
Muscle develops tension while lengthening, decelerates force
What is isometric?
Muscular force = resistive force, No change in muscle length
What is length-tension relationship?
Resting length of a muscle and The tension it can produce at that length.
What is force-couple?
Muscles working together to produce movement
What is force-velocity curve?
As the velocity of a contraction increases, Concentric force decreases, And eccentric force increases
What is Neuromuscular efficiency?
Ability to produce and reduce force, and stablize the kinetic chain in all 3 planes of motion.
What is structural efficiency?
Alignment of the Musculoskeletal system That allows center of gravity To be Maintained Over a base support
What is Davis law?
Soft tissue models along the line of stress
What is Autogenic inhibition?
Autogenic inhibitionis a protective mechanism, preventing muscles from exerting more force than the bones and tendons can tolerate.
What is reciprocal inhibition?
Reciprocal inhibitionis a neuromuscular reflex that inhibits opposing muscles during movement. Forexample, if you contract your elbow flexors (biceps) then your elbow extenors (triceps) areinhibited.
What is relative flexibility?
Tendency of the body to seek the path of less resistance
What is pattern overload?
Consistently repeating the same motion, Places abnormal stresses on the body
What is postural disortion patterns?
Predictable patterns of muscle imbalances
What is altered Reciprocal Inhibition?
Muscle inhibition caused by a tight agonist, Which inhibits It’s functional antagonist
