What is the endocrine system?
system of glands, secretes hormones to regulate bodily functions
What is testosterone?
Anabolic hormone, responsible for male sex traits
what is estrogen?
Influences fat deposition on hips, buttocks, and thighs, responsible for female sex traits
What is the growth hormone?
anabolic hormone, responsible for bodily growth up until puberty.
what is insulin?
Regulates energy and glucose metabolism in the body. Keeps blood glucose from rising too high
what are hormones?
Are chemical Messengers that travel through the body coordinating complex processes like growth, metabolism, and fertility in response to a signal from the brain
what are glands?
It’s an organ which produces and releases substances that perform a specific function in the body
what are target cells?
Any cell that has a specific receptor for antigen or antibody or hormone or drug
what is the hypothalamus?
The hypothalamus gland is a small region of the brain it’s located at the base of the brain near the pituitary gland.
what is the pituitary gland?
the master gland, is a pea-sized gland that plays a major role in regulating vital body functions and general well-being. controls the function of the other endocrine glands
what is a thyroid?
Produces hormones that regulate metabolism and lowers blood calcium
what is adrenal?
Your body’s response to stress. Releases corticosteroids ( a class of steroid hormone) and catecholamines ( causes General physiological changes that prepare the body for physical activity)
what is adrenaline?
a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands, especially in conditions of stress, increasing rates of blood circulation, breathing, and carbohydrate metabolism and preparing muscles for exertion. ( epinephrine)
what is glucagon?
Causes the liver to convert stored glycogen into glucose, which is released into the bloodstream. Keeps blood glucose from dropping too low
what is the parathyroid?
raises blood calcium.
