The Motor Effect Flashcards
A current in a [ ] experiences a force
Magnetic field
What’s the motor effect?
The force experienced by a current-carrying wire in a magnetic field. The force gets bigger if either the current or the magnetic field is made bigger
Describe the force created by the motor effect in relation to the current and magnetic field
Thee force is 90° to the current and magnetic field
What happens to the force when the direction of the current or magnetic field is reversed?
Reversed
To experience the full force the wire has to be….
At 90° to the magnetic field
If the wire runs parallel to the magnetic field…
it won’t experience any force at all
What does Flemming’s left hand rule tell you?
The direction the force acts (pg 170)
Desccribe hoe to ‘do’ Flemming’s left hand rule
1) Using your left hand, point you First finger in the direction of the Field and your seCond finger in the direction of the Current
3) Your thuMb will then point in the direction of the fore (Motion)
