The feudal system was how society was organised in the Middle Ages

The Middle Ages was between the years 500AD to 1500AD
Peasants
The farmers during the Middle Ages
Serfs
People who belonged to The Lord and farmed his land
Freemen
Peasants who didn’t have to give free labour to The Lord
Medieval manor
Where the lords lived in the village
Knights
Soldiers who rode into battle on horseback
Vassals
Name given to the kings followers e.g. Lords, bishops, abbots etc.
Demesne
The fraction of land the king kept for himself
Open field system
The method the peasants used to plant their crops. There were three huge open fields. The serfs rotated the crops they planted every year. The first year they grew oats, rye or barley, the second the grew wheat and the third the left it fallow which means the grew nothing on it for one year
Wimple
A headdress that women wore in the middle ages
Pottage
Porridge mixed with vegetable soup
Bailiff
The bailiff made sure the peasants paid their taxes to the king
Stocks
A method of humiliation and a punishment for thievery that was used in the middle ages
Ducking stool
A method of punishment that was used I the middle ages where a woman would get dunked into a lake for hours
