Causes of the American war of independence
1765 - the stamp act. Britain decided to tax the colonists to pay for the defence of America slogan. “No taxation without representation”
What was the Boston tea party
The Americans were annoyed because Britain were trying to tax tea. When ships carrying tea arrived at the port of Boston, men dressed like Indians boarded the ships and threw the tea overboard.

The stamp act was in 1765. Britain decided to tax the colonists on every piece of printed paper they used

The Townshend acts were passed in 1767. Britain decided to tax colonists on imported goods

The Boston massacre was in 1770. It was when five civilians where shot by Britain soldiers

The intolerable acts were passed in 1774. It was when all the ports in Boston closed

The battle of Lexington was in 1775. It was when the first shots were fired and the American Revolution had began

Name some advantages the American army had
- they knew the countryside well
- they used guerrilla tactics
- they were fighting for their homes (determined)
Name some disadvantages the American army had
- the army consisted of farmers (many insisted on going home for the harvest)
- they had little experience
- they had no money so they had little equiptment
Advantages of the British army
- they were professional and experienced
- their army was 4 times bigger than the American army
- they were well equipped
Name some disadvantages the British army had
- they did not know the country side
* their supplies were in Britain (very far away)
