The Mid-Brain, Brainstem, and Cerebellum Flashcards
If the Presynaptic neuron sends an inhibitory signal to the postsynaptic neuron that caused Potassium to exit the Extra Cellular Fluid, what is this called?
Hyperpolarization
What are Basal Nuclei?
Groups of Somas of Neurons.
What do the Basal Nuclei do?
Unconsciously control skeletal muscles.
What three major groups of axons form the white-matter in the middle of the brain?
- Association axons
- Commisural axons
- Projection axons
What do Association axons do?
Connect different areas of the same hemisphere
What do commisural axons do?
Connect the two different hemispheres.
What do projection axons do?
Connect cerebrum to the mid-brain, cerebellum, and spinal cord.
What does the thalamus do?
- Integrates sensory information going to cerebrum.
2. Integrates information between PNS, cerebrum, and cerebellum.
What does the hypothalamus regulate?
- Heart rate
- Blood pressure
- Respiration
- Digestion
What does the hypothalamus do?
- Releases hormones to endocrine glands
2. Emotional/behavioural drives such as hunger, thirst, and sex.
