Muscles Flashcards
What is the Sarcolemma?
The cell membrane of a muscle cell.
What covers the Epimysium?
Fascia
What is the function of the Sarcoplasmic Reticulum?
Releases calcium during muscle retraction.
Absorbs calcium during muscle relaxation.
Stores calcium.
What are the 3 stretchy/elastic layers?
- Epimysium
- Perimysium
- Endomysium
What do the 3 stretchy layers of muscles combine to form?
Tendons
Where is the Fascia found?
Around the Epimysium
What is the function of the Motor Neuron?
To transfer signals from the Central Nervous System.
What does the Motor Neuron do to get signals to every muscle fibre?
The Motor Neuron subdivides the signals.
What is the function of the transverse tubules?
To transfer signals to the muscle fibre.
What are the characteristics of Slow-Twitch muscle fibres?
- More mitochondria
- Greater blood supply
- Dark colour
What are the characteristics of Fast-Twitch muscle fibres?
- Less Mitochondria
- Less blood
- White colour
