the learning approach Flashcards
whats the key assumption of the learning approach?
all behaviour is learned either through association, rewards and punishment or observation
what example is there of classical conditioning and what does it show?
Pavlovs dogs -learning through association
-dogs learned to associate the sound of a bell with their food to such an extent they began to salivate at just the sound of the bell
what is the example for operant conditioning?and what is it showing
BF SKINNER RATS-learning through reward and association
- rat in box learned positive reinforcement through pressing a lever as food came out
- floow was electrified if it pressed the lever when a red light was shown-negative reinforcement
strengths of the learning approach?
- scientific methods are used & objectivity is strived for
- leads to practical applications
weaknesses of the learning approach?
much of the research is conducted on animals, this info is too simplistic for the human mind
-could be deemed deterministic as people may be excused from the time they have committed
