what is a phobia?
a persistent,intense irrational fear of certain situations or objects
what are thee three main types of phobia?
agoraphobia
social
specific
what are the emotional symptoms of phobias?
intense fear/feelings of panic
what are the behavioural symptoms of a phobia?
person goes to great lengths to avoid the situation
if they can’t do this they may shake,cry etc
what are the cognitive symptoms of a phobia?
distorted thinking
irrational fear
what is unipolar depression?what are the two key symptoms?
major depression
1) depressed moods most or all of the time
2) person must experience at least 5 key symptoms once a day for 2 weeks before a diagnosis
emotional,behavioural and cognitive symptoms of depression?
emotional- low mood,irritability
behavioural-person may lack energy
cognitive-thoughts of death
what are the characteristics of bipolar depression?
- periods of weeks where they suffer from symptoms of major depression
- periods of mania
definition of obsessive compulsive disorder?
an anxiety disorder in which a person experiences persistent intrusive thoughts that they find unpleasant and upsetting
emotional,behavioural and cognitive symptoms of OCD?
emotional-intense anxiety/feeling of panic when thought occur
behavioural- go to great lengths to avoid things that may trigger it
