A

The BTI is an organization of Israeli and palestenian businesses ready to coalesce to pressure the palestenians and israelis to find a two state solution to their problems and reach a peace agreement. Q

What is the difference between BTI and CBM?

A

It was an organization thought up by people that were outside of the political process and dreamed up at the WEF. It was top down while the CBM was more bottom up as many of the members were tired of the talks in another organization.

The BTI was a movement that looked to the politicians to make up the solution but was in favor of a two state solution and not a one state solution.

The BTI refused to talk to Hamas.

BTI did not have a unitary plan on what they wanted to achieve or do.

They refused tot get into the talks themselves.

Q

What is something that has characterized the party poltiics of contemporary Israel?

A

A two-state solution is extremely off the table now, the labor party disintegrated after Netanyahu’s rise to power, and the tension has been rising and rising between the palestenians and israelis. Something which we saw erupt in the wake of the may 2021 conflict.

Q

What is an example of the interconnectedness of Israel and Palestine?

A

As Gaza is cut off from necessary resources to improve its water supply and garbage management, it not only affects their waters but travels up the coast into Israeli territory.

17
Q

How can this water interconnectedness be used to create cooperation between israel and the west bank?

A

One businessman came up with the idea of using Jordan’s electricity to be sent to Israel and then through Gaza, which would come back to Jordan as desalinated water made at less of a cost.

18
Q

What is ineffective about arguments “normalizing the status quo?”

A

There is increasing economic divergence between the West Bank and Gaza. The Satus Quo is always changing. There are also changing geopolitics. n

19
Q

Has the two state solution ever actually been feasible?

A

It is becoming increasingly obvious that it is not a possibility. It is like asking the US to return land to Indians.
