Q

What makes up the papillary layer of the dermis ?

A
  • fine collagenous and elastic fibers
  • blood vessels : supply epidermis which oxygen and nutrients
  • Dermal papillae : increases the strength of the bond between the dermis and epidermis.

Q

Compare incisions made across cleavage lines in comparison to incisions made parallel with cleavage lines …

A

Q

An individual cuts hand and notices small amount of blood which layer will he have had to cut ?

A

Papillary dermis

17
Q

What are the types of sweat gland ?

A
  • Ecrine
  • Apocrine
  • subaceous
18
Q

What is skin colour dependent on ?

A
  • pigments (melanin, beta carotene)
  • blood (haemoglobin)
  • thickness of stratum corneum
19
Q

What is Melanin ?

A

A group of pigments which is produced by melanocytes and protects from UV light.
It can be damaged by UV light, hormones and genetics

20
Q

How is vitamin D produced ?

A
  • Uv light converts form of cholesterol to cholecalciferol (D3) (precursor to vitamin D)
  • the blood then transports this precursor to the live and kidneys where vitamin D is produced
  • Vitamin D is essential for normal absorption of calcium and phosphorus and is essential for bone function
