the integrated CV system (BP regulation) Flashcards
what is pressure diuresis?
renal output of water
what is pressure natriuresis?
renal output of salt
what does excess salt intake result in?
increase H2O retention - increase MAP
which is faster - the intake of salt or intake of water?
intake of sodium
what effect does renin have in the body?
it acts as an enzyme that helps raise arterial pressure
what does renin trigger the release of?
renin - renin substrate - angiotensin I - angiotensin II (powerful vasoconstrictor) =retention of fluids, vasoconstriction
what is the direct/indirect effect of angiotensin?
Direct effect - is to retain salt and water. Indirect effect - causes adrenal glands to secrete aldosterone which increases salt/water reabsorption by kidneys
what is labeled the “silent killer”
primary hypertension
what are rapid responses to control arterial pressure?
baroreceptor feedback, CNS ischemic response, chemoreceptor reflex
what are semi-rapid responses to control arterial pressure?
renin-angiotensin vasoconstrictor mechanism, fluid shift through capillary walls
what are long term responses to control arterial pressure?
renin-body fluid system, possible involvement of aldosterone
