The intact brain Flashcards
What makes up the forebrain / cerebrum?
- cerebral hemispheres
- Diencephalon (thalamus + hypothalamus)
What makes up the brainstem?
- Midbrain
- Pons
- Medulla Oblongata
describe the corpus callosum.
a flat bundle of neural fibres that connects the left and right cerebral hemispheres. Allows interhemispheral communication.
Contains commissural fibers.
Central sulcus
separates the Parietal and Frontal lobes.

site of primary MOTOR cortex
put your first foot fowards and your thoughts behind
Postcentral Gyrus
site of primary SOMATOSENSORY cortex
put your first foot forwards, and your thoughts behind
What is different about the Optic Nerve?
it is NOT a true cranial nerve
it is an extension of the brain
what are peduncles?
White matter structures that connect areas of the brain
What structures are linked by the middle cerebellar peduncle?
Cerebellum and Pons
