15
Q

Agnosia

A

Agnosia is when awareness persists but there is no understanding of the sensation.
It occurs when the secondary sensory areas are damaged.

16
Q

What is Apraxia?

A

Apraxia is the inability to perform purpose movements. It is caused by damage to secondary motor areas.

17
Q

What is the general association cortex?

A

it has an integrative function. It links together all the senses and the hippocampus.

  • The parieto-temporal cortex is involved in memory.
  • The Prefrontal cortex is involved in regulating moods and feelings. It allows decisions to be made by analysing previous experiences.
18
Q

Language areas of the brain

A

2 language areas are in the Dominant hemisphere.

1) posterior area (wernicke’s area) is for understanding
2) Anterior area (Broca’s area) is for production of language.

19
Q

what is aphasia?

A

damage to wernicke’s area causes inability to understand language.
damage to broca’s area causes inability to articulate speech.
