The muco-ciliary is an important defense mechanism.The layer of cleansing mucus responsible for the movement of mucus up and out of the respiratory tract.People with cystic fibrosis have abnormal mucociliary clearance meaning they have difficulty in getting rid of microbes and particle making them more susceptible to lung infections.

Complement is used to create the hole in a microbe so antibodies or phagocytes can engulf /get rid of the microbe.
